Let's Celebrate 8 years of Scraps of Color (Day 1 Hop)

HAPPY 8th ANNIVERSARY Scraps of Color!
Welcome to SOC's 8th Anniversary Blog Hop! I'm glad you stopped by for the celebration! If you're dropping by from  Lisa's blog, then you're in the right place! However, if you started here, you can visit the SOC E:spire blog to join this party from the beginning!

I'm from a large family and we love, love, love to celebrate.  As the years go by, our large family seems to be shrinking. Which is why scrapbooking birthdays, anniversary, graduations, family reunions and milestones are so important. My focus for this celebration blog hop will be my daughter Alexis.

Alexis is such a hardworking young lady. She is strong willed and very determined to meet her goals. I'm proud of her because she is following in the foot steps of me and my mother; minus marrying the wrong man. To date; graduating from high school has been her greatest triumph. Now she is working her way through the college of her choice.  Shall we begin...

Example 1:Supplies
  • Paper: Stampin Up!
  • Die cuts: Me and My Big Ideas
  • Journal Mats: Creative Memories
  • Brads: Recollections
  • Flowers: Recollections
  • Punch: EKsuccess

Layout 1: Used my Hit it and Quit it method. My daughter is not frilly and does not like pastel colors. So this layout hah to be bright and match the colors of the balloons and the cake.

Dividing the Photos
This LO is all about the guest that came to celebrate with us. I punched the red strip and placed it on top of the gold strip (both from my scrap stash). I chose to place my title block in the center to break up some of the green and blue so that the focus would be on the photos.

Layout 1: Dividing the Photos

The journaling mat is the perfect size for writing
about the guest at the celebration.

Q: Do you journal as you scrapbook or once you have finished the album?

 Layout 2: Simple and Clean

LO 1 had the flowers, brads and title; which divided the photos plus provided a little eye candy.  This page has the same goal: Divide the photos. The brackets and Graduate die cut gave the center trim more depth and help to showcase the photos.

I did not mat any of the photos because the layouts have enough color. But, if I did choose to mat; I would have used black

Q: do you like to mat with black cardstock?

**Be sure to answer the questions each day  in order to be eligible for my blog candy.

  8. Quick, cute and simple. I don't mat very often..the color will always depend on the patterned papers and colors I'm using.

  9. I sometimes mat with black, especially if the colors in the pictures are really bright. Just to tone it down a tad.

  10. Very nice LO! I love the colors--you didn't have to mat because the pics popped against the paper! I'm with Classygirl-I use matting, but it depends on my papers!

  11. I journal at the end and I love to mat with black and any color that coordinates with my paper. Your 2 page layout is nice!

  13. I'm not a scrapbook but I'm in the process of trying to do a mini album and I'm finding that I'm trying to do some of the journal in the middle and I would say I would use black but I use it in my card making.

  18. What a fun layout! I tend to journal as I work on a layout. It feels more complete to me that way. I almost always mat my photos, but I don't believe I've ever used black. I coordinate my mats with my background papers.

  19. Very nice layout! I journal sporadically - usually while I'm creating a layout. There used to be a time when I wouldn't dare include a photo on a layout without matting it. Now, it varies. Sometimes I mat all photos, just one, or none at all.

  20. Great layout! I love the bright colors. When i'm scrapbooking it depends on the colors I'm using. I try to pick a color from my DP and then use that to mate. TFS AJ-

Scraps of Color "Christmas in July" Blog Hop: Day 1

My Christmas in July 2013 My Pink Journey CHRISTMAS IN JULY: DAY 1 One Sunday night (I guess it was actually early Monday morning) in July, I had a bad case of insomnia and was fooling around on eBay.  I saw that there was a bid on a new Pink Journey Cricut Expression Bundle that was about to end and the price was like 40 bucks. I was like; No way. The Bundle included 3 cartridges; one of which was the Pink Journey Champagne Rose Solution cartridge. So, I bid $56 and won the bid.  That was such a great deal simply because the Pink Journey cartridge sells for about that; at least on eBay.  Below is the layout that I created to commemorate the purchase LAYOUT 1 Solid Cardstock is Recollections Patterned Paper is Stampin Up! Chipboard Letters and Banners are KandCompany Journaling mats are Creative Imaginations Flip Flops Sticko Bling is from want2scrap Studio G Ink was used for the edges of the mats The chipboard let...

SOC CELEBRATE #8 BLOG HOP: DAY 3

WELCOME BACK to the Scraps of Color Celebrate #8 Blog Hop I've Been Accepted!!    I can remember when my daughter and I were reading about colleges and she told me that she only wanted to go to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) .  I was thinking, praise God TSU (Tennessee State University) here she comes. DING-DONG-WRONG! She said that she wanted to go to Alabama A&M in Huntsville. Then the prayer wheel started turning. " Lord, you said that you would supply all of our needs according to your riches" and you said that "What things we desire, when we pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them".        Now, she had some struggles in high school and was at best a B- to C+ student . Even though she would study and work hard; she had trouble. School just did not come easy to her; but her common sense and work ethic was ON POINT. Believe that. Nevertheless, Alexis only applied to one school. She ha...

October 7, 2011: Scraps Of Color Breast Cancer Awareness Blog Hop!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! So, in honor of this event--I, along with some talented crafter's, have teamed up to honor and celebrate the men and women in our lives that inspire us with their strength in the battle against Breast Cancer. Of course, a blog hop isn't complete without blog candy! There will be giveaways on various blogs throughout the hop! Plus, there will be an SOC blog hop gift awaiting one visitor!! To be eligible for that prize, you must comment on all the blogs by Monday, Oct. 10 at 11:00pm EST. The fight to find a cure for breast cancer is near and dear to my heart. Not only because my maternal grandmother lost her battle with breast cancer; but because my mom had a scare a few years ago.  In 2009, the Lord healed me from ovarian cancer. To God Be the glory for the things he has done. I give him praise for healing me and for the courage and hope that i received from my mom and my grandmother.  Yes, Lord we need a cure.  My prayers and ...
